2013 Trek Verve 3

Trek's Verve 3 is a super-plush ride no matter where you choose to roam thanks to an easy-pedaling aluminum frame and a suspension fork that smooths any road or path. Sublime comfort comes in the form of a relaxed, easy-on-the-back riding position and adjustable stem with wide handlebars. Plus, you'll love the cushy Bontrager seat and suspension seatpost that makes the bumps disappear. In addition to being comfortable, the 24 gears provide easy pedaling and climbing, too. If you forgot how much fun riding is, one ride on the Verve, and you'll never forget.

Chain will rub front derailleur

        Comments:

I will state up front that I am a demanding customer. What bothers me may not bother you. The Verve 3 is designed by TREK so that the chain will lightly brush the front derailleur in the highest and lowest gear settings. This is a quote from TREK: "With an 8 speed triple system there will be rubbing in the extremes.(high gear/low gear). Without that, there is the possibility of the chain being thrown off of the large chainring or the small ring into the frame." Do you think this is good bike design? As an overall bike, the Verve 3 is very nice, but I think TREK can do better on the front derailleur. The chain rubbing led me to very closely inspect the crank set gears. As it turns out, the largest gear is not perfectly "flat" so that it moves very slightly to one side through about 30 degrees of arc. Not much to the side, but the other two gears do not do this, so why only this one? With a tight derailleur clearance, this only increases the problem. The second thing I found was that the gear teeth on the middle and largest gears are not the same height. Around 6 - 8 teeth are shorter than the rest. This does not affect engaging the chain, but to me it indicates poor manufacturing quality. If you can make 97% of the teeth the correct size, you can do it for 100%. Third, the front tire makes a slight rubbing sound at one point in the revolution. It sounds like a brake pad gently touching the sidewall, but that is not what is happening because I checked that. The wheel shows no sign of being bent to the side. The sound only occurs when the tire rotates forward. I cannot find any point of contact between the tire and any part of the bike. Since the bike is new, maybe this will go away after it wears in. The only other possibility would seem to be something in the hub and I hate to imagine that.

I like this bike alot. I feel comfortable on it and it is easy to switch gears. The seat is good so my bottom doesn't hurt. It has shocks which help me not feel the bumps in the road as much. It is a joy to ride and the best bike I've ever had.

Service was great. We had Grant who really took the time to explain the bike to us. Zion Cyclery also took the time to put the bikes together while we waited! We haven't gone back for our 30 day checkup but will be doing that soon.

Bought this for exercise. Wanted to replace an older bike that was not designed to long rides or road riding. My longest ride on the old bike was 17 miles. The weekend I got my new bike I went 32 miles and with in a week went over 40 miles. The bike handles great, its a good looking bike. Its a fast bike with very nice tires and wheels. Its just a cool bike.

Love my Versa. Got back into riding recently, and I am now averaging 100 miles a week. This bike handles very well, and I take it out for a spin every day. I am 6'4, and this bike accommodates my frame better than the other bikes I tried.

The first Trek I had was a 2009 2300. I purchased it used & rebuilt it with specs from the then current 2300. A cold winter brought on a back problem & I gave my rebuilt Trek to a homeless vet., planning on another 2300 once the back cleared up. My back got better but they discontinued the 2300 for the Verve. It is comfortible, very comfortible. I like the cables routed inside the frame, but the rear brake cable isn't. It runs underneath the top section & that is the first problem, when you put the bike on a rack, the cable gets in the way & can get snagged. The 2009 2300 has a front derailer that adjusts with the cable coming down from the top, very efficient. The Verve front derailer is pulled from the bottom & is perhaps the weakest part of the bike. It just doesn't change as well. They also changes the front stem & the adjustibility isn't quite the same. I had to add an extention to get it right. Perhaps I should've passed on the Verve. It is definately the most comfortible bike I've ever ridden, but it has it's flaws.

Love it! I got into riding about 1 year ago. bought a basic bike and once I determined that I enjoyed it I wanted something better. I did a lot of research online and shopped around. I found this bike to be the perfect fit for me. Its lightweight, easy to put on the rack, Shifts amazing and no clunking of the gears. Looks great as well. Very comfortable riding. I previously had a Comfort bike with the 26" wider tires and was a little concerned about the narrower tire size on the gravel trails but there is no problem at all. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this awesome bike!

Can't remember the last time I purchased a product that exceeded my expectations. Used to ride a lot but now with middle-age and bad discs in my neck and back, I've been looking for a way to keep cycling. This bike was definitely the answer. Hands-down the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. The lock-on Bontrager Satelite Elite ergonomic grips make a HUGE difference and the Bontrager Boulevard saddle is very nice indeed. Obviously you're not going to win any races on this bike but you can enjoy the countryside at 15mph in complete comfort. Thanks to the gang at Bikes and Moore in Hopkinsville, KY for steering me in the right direction, answering all of my questions, and doing a professional job of putting the bike together.
