this cycling machine offers everything required for the commute to the office and along the trails. i have another very good bike, but love this one for its versatility and comfort.
I purchased the Trek 8.2 DS as a compromise between a road bike and a mountain bike; one which would hopefully be equally at home on asphalt or trail bed. Being a large rider at 6'3" and 250 lbs. I was concerned about the ability of this bike to take a pounding. To my satisfaction, this has proved to be a well-made bike that rides/shifts smoothly and easily handles the trails of Pennsylvania's tow paths and converted railroad trails with ease. Craftmanship appears to be very good as is the componentry supplied in the $500 category.
After three months and 400 miles on the DS 8.2 I could not be more pleased with the overal performance and comfort. After five years on a mountain bike I wanted something more suitable for the varying surfaces of Chicago city streets and traffic. It rides and handles great! I just turned 60 and feel I have the last and best machine I have ever owned. It fits my riding style perfectly.
